Saoirse Watters
My name is Saoirse (see-ur-shuh). I am a performer, artist, eco-feminist, folk herbalist, permaculturist, and ritual weaver. My passions are plants and songs, therefore I have created PlantSong Ritual Workshops, combining folk herbalism, permaculture, seasonal wisdom, and music. I am also a touring musician playing my original music as well as world music which deeply inspires me.
Short Bio
I grew up splitting time between Louisiana and Colorado and consider both home. After the birth of my son John Jade, I moved to Colorado, where I still reside.
I was also fortunate enough to spend time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I studied Spanish and first began learning the harp. I was in my teens then and couldn’t have known that both Spanish and the harp would remain lifelong passions.
Some of my earliest memories in life are of living on a small farm in Sunset, Louisiana. The time I spent there as a child, wandering among the blueberries and corn, was extremely formative. I have since dedicated my life to finding ways to regenerate the ecosystems near me through a combination or agricultural practices, science, art, and honoring indigenous wisdom.
I am an ecofeminist devoted to exploring the wild art of living. My life’s work is to live in the beauty way, and to share beauty with as many beings as I can. I express beauty through song, through working with plants, through dance, and through the design work and classes I teach, etcetera! I say etcetera, because as a wild creative, I am always weaving new magic in through the seasons and as my maturity as a human living as a part of the Earth grows.
This may seem like a lot of separate endeavors, however I like to see them all as different colored threads being woven together. And as I follow the way they are being woven through my own inspirations, I am blown away by how they become more and more interconnected. Folk Herbalism
Folk Herbalism is the reclamation of wild and ancestral wisdom. At some point, all of our ancestors fed themselves with wild plants. If we practice folk herbalism in an ethical way, we can not only heal our own bodies, but remember what it means to be a part of nature.
Music & Performance
Music is our first language, the first languages of our ancestors, of our babies, of our spirits. I have been composing songs since I could walk and would love to share this artform with you. As a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, multi-linguist, and dancer, I perform for all sorts of gatherings, ceremonies, crowds, and individuals.
PlantSong Ritual Workshops
Combining the pathways of folk herbalism, permaculture, music, and ritual, these workshops are designed to facilitate personal embodiment and a connection with the land. My hope is that through the practices of connecting with plants and opening our voices through song and beauty, we can begin to advocate for that which is beyond words.
